How to edit/upload from SD camcorders

by admin on June 16, 2010

Link to download SDcopy: zyvid.com Web site of VideoReDo Plus: www.videoredo.com Standard definition flash memory and hard drive camcorders are small, affordable, and offer good quality, but editing and uploading the MPEG2 video files they produce (usually with the .MOD extension) often turns out to be a hassle. Here I show the method I use, with SDcopy and VideoReDo Plus. SDcopy is a very small free program that transfers the .MOD files from your camcorder to your computer, sets the correct 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio flag, and renames them to .MPG files, all without re-encoding. VideoReDo Plus then lets you edit and join together multiple .MPG clips, again without any re-encoding. Since there is no re-encoding in either program, they work very fast and give you the best possible quality. Of course a full-fledged video editing program would be more flexible and let you add titles, transitions, and background music, but for simple, quick YouTube videos, there is nothing faster — even a 10-minute video only takes a few seconds to save!

@Johnbosveld1 Search for the video “Important Tips for Windows Movie Maker Users”. It should help you get your widescreen WMM videos to show up correctly on YouTube.

@LeVo1900 The PV-GS32 is a MiniDV tape camcorder. In case I didn’t make it clear enough in the video, this method only works with flash memory (SD card) and hard drive camcorders.

LeVo1900 June 17, 2010 at 6:49 am

rhoenmaeher June 17, 2010 at 10:44 am

Hey vest7ife!! Thank you so much for you video and your help about fs200. As a newbie I had no idea how to deal with that things and now I can work efficiently with my camera on my (old) laptop. Thanks a lot!! I’m happy about you guys who makes the effort to help other people with new things and that even for free!!

vwest7ife June 17, 2010 at 10:50 am

@techstyle123 Unfortunately there is no such thing. Any flash memory or hard drive camcorder will create a new file whenever you stop recording and then start again. Only tape based camcorders offer a true “pause” feature.

techstyle123 June 17, 2010 at 11:08 am

i want a sd camcorder that you can pause when recording…anybody know of 1 .
